The extrude tool in Autodesk Maya
The extrude tool is considered one of the most powerful tools in Maya, Can be used to extrude faces, edges and vertices (Best used on faces).
- Select a face and press CMD + E (MAC), or CTRL + E (Windows) to extrude the face
- A small box will appear, it can sometimes be useful to increase the division count
- Keep faces together:
– This is an option in the dialog box that appears after creation a new extrusion
– When checked and extruding multiple faces the extruded faces will all be connected
– When unchecked and extruding multiple faces the extruded faces will be separate (Think teeth or jet engine outlet flaps) - Offset Value: The size of the extruded face
- Local translate: How far the extrusion will go
Extruding Edges
- Same as Faces
Extruding Vertices
- Extruding a vertices creates additional vertices
- Can be useful for creating spikes, try this out and understand how it works
