It can be tedious running scripts from the script editor all the time, to make this easier we can add our scripts to the Maya shelf interface.
Click on the custom tab:
Highlight the script and drag to the custom shelf:
Select ‘Python’ on the popup:
Alt/Right click on the icon and select ‘edit’:
Click on the shelves tab to change which shelf the script sits in, also update the icon etc..
We can rename the command:
Browse for an icon or upload:
Enter a label which will appear in the shelf:
