The boolean tools in Autodesk Maya

Boolean tools provide a way of intersecting or joining objects into shapes that would otherwise be impossible, or very difficult to model.

  • If you are using multiple objects to intersect with another object you need to combine them into 1 object, do this with Mesh > Combine
  • Select the objects in order, so the 1st selection is the primary object, and the 2nd selected object will interact with it (For example the 2nd object overlap will be cut out of the 1st selected object if using the Difference boolean)
  • To apply the boolean script go to Mesh > Boolean and select the required option.
  • Click on the small square next to each option to customise, explore each option:

Union – Combines the objects

Difference – Cut the 2nd object out of the primary object

Intersection – Leaves only the overlap
