Painting Grass & Other Things directly into a scene in Maya

To paint grass or foliage directly onto a scene:

  1. Make sure ‘Modelling’ is selected from the most upper left dropdown
  2. Go to ‘Generate’ > ‘Get Brush’
  3. Select the brush you want to use
  4. Close the ‘Content Browser’ window
  5. Now you can paint the texture into the workspace
  6. Press B + Drag to adjust brush size
  7. To be able to see the brush when rendering in Arnold, you must convert the brush to polygons
  8. Select the object
  9. ‘Modify’ > ‘Convert’ >  ‘Paint effects to polygons’
